Athletics & Discipline

Competitive tennis, and the discipline and focus it has taught me on and off the court.

Scroll

Tennis has taught me discipline, resilience, and focus.

Through consistent training and competition, I continue to build perseverance and strategic thinking skills that influence how I approach challenges both on and off the court.

Consistent training, real competition

Tennis rewards preparation — hours of repetition that show up in a single point during a match.

Competing regularly has taught me how to stay composed under pressure and adjust strategy mid-match rather than sticking to a single plan.

Passing it on to younger players

Tennis is easiest to stick with when someone more experienced is willing to help you improve — I try to be that person for newer, younger players when I can.

Mentoring on the court also reinforces the fundamentals for me: explaining a stroke to someone else is one of the fastest ways to understand it better yourself.

Awards & recognitions.

Sample entries — swap in Riaan’s actual awards

Team MVP Certificate

Recognition for most valuable player on the team.

Tournament Finalist Certificate

Certificate from reaching a tournament final.

Coach’s / Sportsmanship Award

Every match is a reminder that discipline shows up quietly, in practice, long before anyone is watching.
